MassVentures Announces 2014 “START” Stage I & II Program Winners

As part of our on-going involvement within the SBIR Program, two of our team members, Brian LaCroix and Tom Pistone, participated as volunteer proposal reviewers for the 2014 MassVentures SBIR START Program.  The results of the proposals are now in, and congratulations to the 10 Stage 1 companies that won $100,000 grants from MassVentures, as well as the 4 Stage II Program winnners taking home $200,000 each!  The Stage II winners will have the opportnity to compete for one of two Stage III awards of up to $500,000 each, based on their progress in bringing a product or service to the market.

MassVentures Announces 2014 “START” Stage I & II Program Winners

MassVentures, announced today the 2014 START Stage I & II program winners. START, now in its third year, is a $6 million initiative funded by the Patrick Administration and administered by MassVentures to help growing companies commercialize technologies developed under SBIR and STTR contracts. The program is intended to help high-growth companies grow employment opportunities, promote manufacturing and commercialization, and stimulate innovation across the Commonwealth.

Each of the Stage I winners receieve $100,000.  Each of the Stage II winners won $200,000 each, and in 12 months, they will compete for 1 of 2 $500,000 Stage III awards.

The Stage I winners are:

Artaic 

PillStream provides high accuracy, high throughput production of Custom Multi-medication Packages (CMPs) that will enable pharmacies to provide their customers with patient-specific daily delivery of medications. Boston, MA

 

Cambridge Electronics, Inc.Cambridge Electronics is a power electronics start-up company with the mission of revolutionizing semiconductor devices based on GaN. Cambridge, MA
Eos PhotonicsEos Photonics enables critical applications in chemical detection that leverage a new generation of infrared laser technology – the “Quantum Cascade Laser”. Cambridge, MA
FloDesign SonicsFloDesign Sonics is developing acoustic separation technologies with applications in oil/water emulsion splitting, bio-pharmaceutical cell clarification, and biomedical application such as blood salvaging. Wilbraham, MA
