DoD STTR FY2014.A Solicitation and Proposal Season Begins

The U.S. Department of Defense Office of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) announced their 2014.A STTR Solicitation on February 3, 2014. Agencies participating in the 2014.A solicitation include the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The STTR Program is currently in its pre-release stage during which communication between small businesses and topic authors is highly encouraged. During the Pre-Release period, you may talk directly with topic authors to ask technical questions about the topics. Their names, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses are listed within each solicitation topic. For reasons of competitive fairness, direct communication between proposers and topic authors is not allowed during the Open period when DoD is accepting proposals for each solicitation.

The Open period begins March 5, 2014 when DoD officially accepts proposals. It closes on April 9, 2014. During part of this period (through March 26th), proposers may submit written questions about solicitation topics through the SBIR/STTR Interactive Topic Information System (SITIS). SITIS closes to new questions on March 26th.

DoD reminds proposers to carefully read the entire solicitation due to changes recently made by the SBA as a result of program reauthorization. Solicitations have been extensively rewritten following changes of the SBIR/STTR reauthorization.

Closing Date: April 9, 2014, at 6:00 a.m. ET

Many entrepreneurs spend so much time on the technical aspects of their proposals, that they give the financial portion of their proposal far less attention.  In some cases this can cost you the proposal and hundreds of thousands of dollars from a potential contract lost.  This is one of many mistakes Government Contractors make.  You can learn about this and many more at our next upcoming webinar here.
